Track and Manage Goals

Create individualized training plans by assigning learners accreditation- or course-related Goals. There are several ways to establish a learner’s training goals, via automated Goal Rules or the manual Assign Goals process. This document explains how LMS managers and students track training goal status.

A Manager's View of Goals

If the Portal Administrator has enabled "Set Team Goals" and/or "Waive Team Goals" from the LMS Information page, LMS managers with a role higher than "Student" will find a +Goals link on their legacy Employees tab or My Team - Goals page where they can add goals for employees in their purview. They can also access and manage their employees' training goals. Summary graphics, goal details, and action buttons provide a simple way to manage goal assignments and track progress at a glance. On the My Team page, it is important to note that a manager can see an employee's goal history, even those goals that are inactive or are tied to inactive accreditations or courses, whereas a student will only be able to view their active requirements.

There are two charts that summarize the employee goal records, one by Status and the other by Assignment Due Date. Number totals display inside of each graph, while hover text provides percentage details.

Goals – Chart displays all goals by status: Achieved, Assigned, Waived
Assigned – Chart shows number of assigned goals by Due Date: No Due Date, More than 30 Days, Less than 30 Days, Past Due

Click Filter to apply criteria that refine the list of goals and Apply Filter to execute those criteria.

Goal Progress Summaries

Progress charts summarize your employee training goals, listing both Courses to Complete and Assigned Goals by due date. Number totals and percent complete provided with hover text. Above the Goals results lists, two pie charts display dashboard information.

Goals– A pie chart displays total number of Goals assigned by status: Achieved, Assigned, Waived
Assigned – A pie chart shows number of Assigned Goals by due date: No Due Date, More than 30 Days, Less than 30 Days, Past Due - including both course and accreditation goals.

View Goal Details and Manager Actions

The Goals tab displays employees and their training goals in varying statuses along with Action buttons. Actions available depend on the type of goal and how it was assigned to the employee (self-assigned, manager-assigned, or rule-assigned). Due Date – The date on which the goal is due to be completed, if established during the goal-setting process.
Status - the Status column displays an icon to represent the employee's goal status at a glance. A plain circle indicates the goal is in progress and not overdue. A circle with a red dot indicates the goal is past due. A trophy indicates the goal is complete. Click the icon to expand the goal information, including the type of goal, the date assigned, who/what assigned the goal, and if the manager is allowed, fields to change the due date, reminders, and earliest score date for that specific record.
Goal - Click on the Course Name or Accreditation Goal Name to open a details slide-in page with additional information and actions available.
User - The user assigned the goal and their username.
Location - The user's location associated with the goal.
Actions - Options will vary depending on the goal type and assignment method.
- Waive Goal : Click to exclude an employee from having to complete the goal. This is the only way to remove a rule-based goal assignment for a specific employee. This capability must be turned on in LMS Information settings by the portal administrator.
- Edit Goal : Click to open up editable fields related to the goal.
- Delete Goal : This will delete the selected goal, but can only be used for manually assigned goals. Self-assigned goals can be removed by the student. A manager may delete goals they assigned but will not be able to delete goals set by other managers. A portal administrator would need to intervene.
  Goals assigned by rules will reappear the next time the rule is run. Use Waive to exempt the employee from the rule-based goal.
Add a Goal: if enabled by the portal administrator, use the [+Goals] button in the upper right corner to manually add a goal to one or more employees. The manager must also have a role assigned higher than Student.

A Student View of Goals: My Training Plan

All accreditation and course goals that have been assigned to, waived, or achieved by the logged-in user are listed on user's My Training Plan page and if displayed, may be summarized on their My Learning page. Students cannot edit goals assigned by a rule or by their manager or portal administrator.

If Self Assign Goals is enabled on the LMS Information page, students will see +Goals displayed in upper right corner. Only users who assigned themselves a training goal will see action options listed. Although they may see the Delete All icon in the results header, the LMS will only allow them to delete self-assigned goals. Click on the linked Course or Accreditation Goal Name to open a details slide-in page with additional information and actions available.

THE LEGACY EXPERIENCE

Depending on a user’s profile assignments in the LMS, he or she will have different capabilities related to Certification and Curriculum goals. The table below shows, at a high level, what each type of user can expect. The “Portal Administrator” and “Student” roles listed correspond with the same roles in the LMS. Manager views could vary depending on their LMS Role (which controls the visibility of left navigation menu items) and their LMS Position (which controls the scope of user visibility within the organization, including those shown on the Homepage “Employees” tab or the Navigation - My Team page.)
