LatitudeLearning's course enrollment is aided by the Course Equivalencies function. Course Equivalency offers alternate ways a student can achieve credit for a course.

Course equivalency can be achieved in four different ways. If the student has:
  • completed another course
  • has a specific position code
  • is part of a position code group
  • has achieved requirements for a specific Certification or Curriculum
Once equivalency has been achieved, it is as if the course requirement has been fulfilled.

In the screenshot below, an equivalency for Learning by Design Part 1 is set to the introduction to a Basic eLearning Course. The operators "&" and "|" can be used in conjunction with the letter assigned to the entity to create more complex equivalency statements.

Equivalency is helpful in the following scenarios:

  • Certification or Curriculum - If equivalency is met, then the course goal requirement for a certification or curriculum is met.
  • Series - If equivalency is met, then the course component of a series will be considered complete.
  • Course Group - If equivalency is met, the student will have achieved credit for a component course that is part of a course group.
  • Prerequisite - If equivalency is met and it is a prerequisite, then the prerequisite requirement has been achieved.
  • User Search by Course Completion - With User Search, it is possible to select course completion as a criteria. If a student has achieved equivalent course credit, they will be in the population of students returned for a course completion search. In other words, equivalent credit for Course B will make this student show up in a user search for course completions for Course A – in the instance in which Course B has been assigned as equivalent credit for Course A.

With Course Equivalency, a student’s position or their credit from one course can act as proxy credit for another course. This is especially helpful since it reduces the amount of manual administration required to give students credit for a course when they have completed complimentary requirements. This saves time and gets students what they need: advancing their professional development towards concepts they can master in LatitudeLearning.
