Position Codes
< Back to LatitudeLearning Tools
In most training organizations, Position Codes represent the job or title held by an individual. LatitudeLearning uses Position codes not only to categorize students, but also to assign training Goals, determine Department membership, and even customize the user experience based on their training requirements.
Position codes are a required part of every user Profile. Users can have a single profile with one position, multiple position codes, or multiple profiles with different position assignments. This flexibility is helpful for people who function as a training supervisor in one organization, and as a simple student in another location. In this way, LatitudeLearning allows for a dynamic set of structured position code assignments that can adjust to the learning and managerial needs of each user.
Create subordinate and superior relationships between Position Codes in order to create a reporting hierarchy. This is the fundamental way in which managers can assign people goals and oversee their training progress.
The example below, Regional Director has two superior positions (CEO and Training Administrator) and one subordinate position (Store Manager). In terms of reporting relationships, this director will be able to view transcript data for all people at his organization who are a Store Manager, or report to the Store Manager.
In terms of hierarchy, position codes will not always follow your organizational chart. For instance, if the President of a company is never going to pull reports from the LMS, then the HR Administrator may be the individual at the top of the position code hierarchy. Below the HR Administrator, the President of the company and a member of the safety team may be given the same position code and operate at the same managerial level. What is important is that the position codes be kept to a minimum so that a sensible, structured reporting hierarchy can be configured and maintained.
