BACKGROUND: Course Enrollment Restriction Settings
In the Latitude Learning LMS, course configuration options include an attribute which limits potential enrollments in a course. The standard settings were:
- Once Only (only one completion allowed; pass or fail)
- Unlimited (enroll as many times as desired)
- Restrict by Number of Days (allow re-enrollment only after X days have passed)
This enrollment control attribute can be set on the “Add Course” page under the “Enrollment Restriction” heading. When editing courses, administrators can access it by expanding the “Additional Information” section.
ENHANCEMENT #1: Restrict by Number of Enrollments
LMS Portal Administrators can now set a maximum limit (integer) on the total number of course enrollments allowed by any one student. The new course Enrollment Restriction option is called “Restrict by Number of Enrollments”.
If a student user has exceed this enrollment limit and opens the Course Details page, they will see an enrollment eligibility message stating that they have reached the maximum number of enrollments allowed and therefore cannot enroll again.
BACKGROUND: Classroom Course and Offering Management
Classroom type courses provide Portal Administrators the option to set multiple Offering Defaults during the add/edit course process, including “Minimum Number of Students” and “Cancellation Cutoff Days”. These settings can also be edited per Offering.
ENHANCEMENT #2: Minimum Enrollment for Live Education
Latitude has now implemented an automated cancellation routine for instructor-led Offerings that are set to consider the “Minimum Number of Students” limit and the new “Days in Advance to Cancel if Minimum Enrollment Not Met” field. When these enrollment restrictions have been properly configured, Offerings in which the minimum number of students has not enrolled will be automatically cancelled.
All students enrolled in an auto-cancelled offering and the Instructor(s) scheduled to teach it will be notified of the cancellation.
