Welcome to the kickoff of our new monthly series, LMS Roadmap, by Latitude CG's senior principal, Tom Merritt. Merritt oversees our learning management system's (LMS) Research & Development department.
This has been a year of growth for our organization and our LMS. We have updated our technology platform, enhanced the functionality of the system and embraced a direction to enhance the system for a broad spectrum of industries.
Recent Product Enhancements
Earlier this year we upgraded our technology platform to SQL Server 2014 and .NET 4.6.1. This improved system performance in some areas by over 50% and helped us take our first major step towards significant functionality enhancements.
Enhancements included language packs, enrollment controls, user administration, transcript expiration parameters, mobile 1.0 and other general administrative improvements.
Upcoming Releases
In addition to our previous enhancements, by the end of this year we will release some of the most significant core functionality improvements in our product’s history:
- Person-to-Person Reporting will support relationships between employees and managers based on identity (John Doe reports to Jane Smith) rather than positions hierarchy (technician reports to service manager
- Unlimited User Search will allow administrators to navigate the entire list of users in the system, even if the user base is in the thousands
- A Required Training widget will present to the user ONLY the courses included in assigned goals. This will help the user to know what courses he or she MUST take to achieve certifications or curriculum goals
- Course Groups which will require completion of two or more courses to obtain a passing transcript
Pending Development
And this isn’t all. Our roadmap for the future includes additional enhancements that will make our system even more powerful:
- A new Reporting Engine based on a single, consistent dataset where clients can create and save their own reports
- Course Goals which allow administrators to set specific completion dates for individual courses
- Rules-based goal assignments to drive required course completions automatically based on specific audience definition
- Unbalanced Organizations will enable clients to set up a hierarchy of organizations with any number of levels in any branch of the hierarchy
- Course Goals will allow the administrator to set required course completions by specific due dates for different audience types
- Browse by Topic will allow students to browse the catalog by navigating up and down a tree of course topics (courses can be associated with multiple topics)
- Unlimited enrollment of others processes will allow administrators to enroll an unlimited number of students in courses at one time
- Responsive UI design to optimize usage on all types of platforms (tablets, smartphone, etc.)
- Web Service API’s to permit clients to obtain information from the LMS using secure web services
- Performance data as a driver for course assignments so the LMS can trigger assignments based on real-world business performance metrics
What's Next
In the coming weeks, our account managers will be setting up meeting times with some of you so I can share more details of these developments with you in person and get your valuable input as to which areas are most important to you and your business.
I look forward to the opportunity to talk with you and learn from you!
