BACKGROUND: LMS Password Reset
One of the issues software help desks face is users who struggle with remembering their username and password. Resetting passwords in the Latitude Learning LMS is a fairly straightforward process – enter your username and email address and the user proceeds to reset their password. In some cases, username and email address combinations are assigned to the employee, and consequently, since it is typically not based on memorable information like other logins in their personal realm, there is a good chance they won’t remember those essential account access credentials.
ENHANCEMENT: Two Factor Authentication (2FA)
Latitude has developed a Two Factor Authentication (2FA) method for account access, enabling users to quickly and efficiently restore their credentials without human intervention. The majority of users who need login assistance are served by the existing password reset mechanism. A percentage of users need additional assistance to recover their credentials to log in. 2FA helps identifiable users to get to their home page by presenting challenge questions that are difficult to answer without personal knowledge of the user.

When a person doesn’t remember their username, the system will 1) identify them with existing data from their user account and 2) present two challenge questions. A user must answer both questions correctly to complete the LMS authentication process.

Upon successful login, clients will be directed to their usual home page.
Please contact the Latitude Support Team to request that this feature be enabled for your LMS.
FEATURE DETAILS
Challenge Question Library
The list of challenge questions were developed by Latitude as standard options. After researching the topic, we created a set of questions that are proven to be easy to remember –- but difficult to guess if you do not have personal knowledge of the user. Here are the standard questions:
- What elementary school did you attend in fifth grade?
- What is your maternal grandmother’s maiden name?
- In what city were you born?
- What is the first name of your childhood best friend?
- What is the name of the first company you worked for?
- What is your father’s birth month?
If you are interested in using an Operational Services subscription to customize this list, again, please contact Latitude Support.
Security Questions Input Form
Upon first login, the system will check whether or not the user has populated their challenge questions/answers. If those account fields are blank, the user must complete a data collection form. The form requires two sets of authentication question/answer entries.

Once the Two Factor Account Recovery feature is activated, LMS clients can manage this information from their Home page, under the My Details tab.
Portal Administrators can view a user’s authentication questions from the User Account page, under the Additional Information section, to support their end users as necessary. NOTE: Security Question and Answer information is displayed to administrative users as view only (no editing rights).
