Hello again from Latitude R&D. This is Tom Merritt with a monthly update on some of our activities regarding the LMS.
Recent Product Enhancement – Student UI
As you have probably noticed, we have moved to an “open development” methodology, where we make clear to our clients and interested parties just exactly what we’re working on and when it will be done. This means you can have a say in what is done and how it is done. If you browse our website, especially in the R&D area, you will see what we mean. Each enhancement being worked on has a due date, and each proposed enhancement has a “likes” rating, which determines the order in which it will be worked on.
Once example of this is that we have developed a prototype UI for the LMS that is based on icons and a responsive design. We’re looking for feedback on it and would appreciate your input. You can find information here. Take a look and tell us what you think!
Upcoming Releases
We have kicked off our project for Unlimited enrollments and audience types: it allows enrollments of over 100 students and the definition of audience types. Audience types can change membership over time. For example, you might have an audience type called “technicians” that has 200 members. Next month, you might have another action you want to perform regarding enrollment, and the “technicians” audience might now be up to 110 members. You don’t have to do anything to accommodate these new members; they are included as part of audience type.
Proposed Enhancements
Our list for enhancements and suggestions is growing. We want your comments, as the number of “likes” we get determine when things get worked on. Right now the two highest “likes” are a) a modification to move students’ group membership when they move locations, and b) some changes to the Paypal interface for when you are charging for your courses by credit card.
We are open to your comments on all of them. Please review them here.
What’s Coming
We have at least one client interested in funding the student UI. So we will probably see that coming up as an engaged project soon.
We also know the reporting engine is a big deal for everyone. We’re working hard on it and have some preliminary pieces done. It isn’t quite ready for review yet, but we will let you know when it is. This should be one of the most exciting enhancements in the last few years for our clients!
