Hello again from Latitude R&D. This is Tom Merritt with a monthly update on some of our activities regarding the LMS.
Recent Product Enhancement- Course Topics, Keyword Search and Move Enrollments
Course topics provide a browsable hierarchy of course categories, or topics, so users can browse the course catalog by topic instead of searching for keyword matches. Each topic can be subordinated to other topics, so you can have different branches for any subject. Moreover, if a course is associated with a topic at the bottom of the tree, it will show up when you are browsing at the top of the tree as well. This is an ideal way to provide your students access to the course catalog based on categories of subject matter content. All they need to do is browse! The switch to turn on Course Topics is located on the LMS Information page.
We have also refined course search by keyword. This provides more heavily weighted results based on keyword match in the title. You can now also search by partial keyword (beginning of word only).
And finally, moving enrollments: instead of automatically cancelling course enrollments when students move to a new location, portal administrators now have the option of having their enrollments move to the new location (providing the course is still available to the user in the new location). LMS Administrators can turn on this feature on the LMS Information page.
Upcoming Releases
- Unlimited enrollments: to date, LMS Administrators have been restricted to enrollments of up to 100 students at a time. For larger numbers, they have used the Add Interest functionality. Now that restriction will be removed. In addition, they will be able to define audience types and use those for enrollment. This is an exciting development that we’re just now engaging. We’ll keep you updated with more information as this develops.
Proposed Enhancements
We have posted a new blog for enhancements and suggestions. We are open to your comments on all of them. Please review them on our R&D Forum. Below is a sample of a proposed enhancement:
Create a wizard to add users
Currently the LMS Administrator can add a user only if the required position code and location already exist. Suggest creating a wizard that allows the LMS Administrator to create the position code and location on the fly when adding a user to make it easier for the LMS Administrator to add users quickly.
What’s Coming
The big news for 2017 is the new Reporting Engine. We have kicked off this activity and are building it as we speak. We hope to launch this summer and we’ll let you know more as we get down the road.
