LMS Roadmap: Student UI Prototype & New Admin Functionality

Hello again from Latitude R&D. This is Tom Merritt with a monthly update on some of our activities regarding the Latitude Learning LMS product.

Recent Product Enhancement - Student UI Prototype and New Admin Functionality

Last month we launched a click-through prototype to illustrate our design concepts for a new student experience with the LMS. You can see our approach to the next generation UI for the LMS: an extended use of icons, a completely new and refreshing approach to page layout and a responsive design that we think our clients will really appreciate. In addition, we have just completed a revision of some of the administrative interface. Some of our clients had informed us that they wanted to delegate more day-to-day management to the administrator role instead of having the portal administrator do all the work. To accomplish this, we implemented a new approach for several tools in the system, including:

Changing Quick User Search results so it allows the administrator to see users only within the administrator’s organizational domain and provides access only to student’s specific profiles within each organization rather than student’s accounts, which are at a higher level.

Change the “Deactivate” button to “Deactivate Profile”, so it won’t impact student’s accounts. Each profile shows up as a single line item, so the administrator can pick and choose which profiles to deactivate. Each row of result sets have a “Deactivate Profile” or “Reactivate Profile” (but not both) so the administrator can manage profiles from the result set.

Pre-populate the advanced user search page with the administrator’s level of access so they can quickly define a search that will look only for those users the administrator should be able to manage

Upcoming Releases
Our work on unlimited enrollments and audience types is getting ready for release at the end of June; we’re just finishing the final stage of testing prior to deployment. Unlimited enrollments will allow you to use an asynchronous batch enrollment process for as many users as your want, and audience types will allow you to create a dynamic group of users based on logical rules instead of the current approach of defining static user groups

Proposed Enhancements
The list of enhancements and suggestions continues to grow. Here are a couple new ones:

Construct a new manager user interface.

On notifications, “cc” the manager based on reporting relationships.

Create a “Copy Course” button to copy an existing course into a new one that has most of the fields already filled out

What’s Coming
We have started reviewing the new reporting engine user interface. We have started preliminary testing and have reviewed the interface with our steering team. We will be making some improvements over the next few weeks and then send it into QA for full testing. We are looking to release it by the beginning of fourth quarter or sooner.
